Never-ending paperwork trail

My second PAO is long since over. But the bills may never stop. Just this week, I got insurance paperwork and a bill in the mail for the CPM machine I used almost one year ago. One year. I swear I don't know what I've paid for and what I haven't. And I'm pretty darn sure the health insurance company, hospital, clinics and equipment companies don't have a clue either. But one year later? Please. End rant.

Insurance and bills

It took nearly 12 weeks, but I think I finally have the insurance/hospital bill thing straightened out. Getting the "medical necessity" authorization for the seven days I spent in the hospital took the longest, and made me a little worried. My total hospital bill hit more than $100,000, so I'm glad I won't have to resort to living with my parents or selling my body for money to pay off the bill! So far, I've paid about half of the $2,500 that I need to pay out-of-pocket. And by the end of the year, I'll be able to say that my hips are worth almost a quarter of a million dollars! The medical system is a complete mystery to me. I've gotten a dozen of different bills from different areas: anesthesiologists, CT scan, pathology, blood work, office visits, hospital "extras ... " It's mind boggling.

What do a surgeon and a 10,000 pound duck have in common?

Their bills are enormous. Ha ... ha. My hospital bills are finally starting to come in, and I still haven't even gotten the insurance's authorization for my last day in the hospital. That could be one big bill. Out of pocket, I should only have to pay about $2,500 for the whole shebang. Guess I'll have to see if it works out that way. I hate this part!
