Another week to prepare

Two things have happened this past week while I was on vacation in Michigan.

1) My surgery date was pushed back one week because Dr. Mayo needs to be at a meeting on the 16th. My new date is April 23. When I first got the e-mail from Keri, I almost started to tear up, as it's already been such a long wait. But my sister soothed me, and now I'm okay with it. It's only one more week. However, the date change makes my family a little hesitant to start making concrete plans for the surgery ... we don't want to get our airline tickets if the date could change again.

2) I saw the airport in a new light, a semi-scary, how-in-the-heck-am-I-going-to-do-this-after-surgery kind of light. Giant bumps in the jet bridge, tight corners, low seats, cramped quarters, etc. Yikes. All I know is that it's going to be quite an adventure!

Hi Cass,

I'm sorry to hear that your surgery was delayed by a week - I know how hard the wait can be.

Don't worry too much about the transportation end of things. I'm sure someone will be traveling with you and every airport has wheelchairs avalable.

You will find that you have all of the strength you need to do this. Stay positive.

Hang in there!

I agree with Laura...the transportation will work itself out. I was very worried about that bit myself but found it to be very uneventful. I stood up once every half an hour and all was good.

Please ensure you have called the airline and at least have a bulkhead seat...then try and look extra pathetic when checking in to see if they will upgrade you. The first class chairs will be a bit wider and more comfortable and a stiff bloody mary might just be the ticket on the way home. :)

Don't get me wrong Cass, I'm having some bad days...but as active as I want to be again...this is the only option and that meant I had to face this operation head on.

My best,
